Overlooking Paraparaumu Motel is one of the most dramatic landmarks on the Kāpiti Coast, a 14m high statue of the Virgin Mary. Commissioned to mark the 100th anniversary of the apparition of the Virgin Mary at Lourdes, it is one of the largest in the world of its kind. The massive statue was completed with its crown of 17 lights in August 1958. When floodlit, its sparkling halo is visible for kilometres. 'Stations of the Cross', scenes of Christ's passion in mosaics, are placed beside the hilltop path. Entrance between 14 and 20 Tongariro Street, Paraparaumu.

Located just a 5-minute drive north of Paraparaumu Motel, Southward Car Museum is the largest and most comprehensive car museum in the southern hemisphere. This world-class collection features more than 400 cars, motorbikes, planes and many more restored treasures. They also have a large theatre, extensive function and conference facilities, a gift shop and an in-house café.
